CG wins Frost & Sullivan Strategy, Innovation and Leadership Award

•   Award won in the HV Power Transmission Market category
•   For Navigational Positioning, Execution Excellence, Technological Sophistication and Total Customer    Experience
•   Preferred local partner for 550kV EHV Power Transformer in Indonesia.

Avantha Group Company CG has won recognition for its innovative technology and market leadership in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. CG bagged the prestigious 2014 Frost & Sullivan Southeast Asia Competitive Strategy Innovation & Leadership Award in the HV Power Transmission Market category. The Award is a major achievement for CG and underscores its relentless efforts and outstanding performance in this region.

The Competitive Strategy Innovation & Leadership Award recognises companies which have exhibited competitive strategy leadership, display excellence in product innovation, and effectively respond to customer requirements in the market.

CG cleared a rigorous screening and assessment process, based on Frost & Sullivan’s research on its publication, the ‘Southeast Asia HV Transmission Market Report’. The finalists for the award were then shortlisted after interviews with key market participants along with extensive secondary and technology research. CG emerged as the eventual winner after comparative scores on four criteria were analysed: Navigational Positioning, Execution Excellence, Technological Sophistication and Total Customer Experience.

The Southeast Asia and Pacific Region is a key market for CG’s export strategy. CG is the first company in Southeast Asia to design, manufacture and test 500 kV transformers locally. Its power transformer plant at Bogor, Indonesia, recently won an order worth USD 29 million from PT PLN Indonesia to supply Extra High Voltage transformers for the Indonesian electricity transmission network. The Bogor facility is equipped to design, manufacture and test transformers of up to 500 MVA, 550 kV class, and also caters to markets such as Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and South America. CG has also invested more than USD 15 million to build a 550 kV Extra High Voltage Test Lab in Indonesia. As part of its growth strategy in Indonesia and Southeast Asia, CG has also entered into a joint venture with PT PLN Indonesia to manufacture high‐voltage Switchgear products of up to 500 kV class locally in Indonesia. This makes CG a preferred local partner for power plant transformers in this region.

The new recognition follows in quick succession to CG winning the National Intellectual Property (IP) Award, 2014, in the category of‘Top Organisation in Designs’ presented by the Indian Intellectual Property Office and Confederation of Indian Industry.

Commenting on  the  Award, Avantha Group Company CG’s  CEO  and  Managing Director, Laurent Demortier, said: “I am proud to know that CG has won the prestigious Frost & Sullivan Award this year. The recognition will further bolster our untiring efforts in providing globally benchmarked solutions to the key markets in Southeast Asia and the Pacific. I thank Frost & Sullivan for selecting us for this honour, and congratulate the entire CG team for their untiring efforts towards achieving excellence.”

Avantha bags power deal in Paraguay

Avantha Group Company CG has signed a contract with the State Utility of Paraguay — Administracion Nacional de Electricidad (ANDE) for the supply of 19 single and three phase transformers amounting to a total of 683.3 MVA, for expansion of the country’s 220 kV electricity networks.
Paraguay is one of the world’s largest exporters of electricity. It exports to neighbouring Brazil and Argentina. CG has been present in South America for the past two decades and is part of the Rs. 25,000 crore Avantha Group in India.
CG, which has a consolidated global manufacturing capacity of 95,000 MVA; 46,000 MVA in Asia, 31,000 MVA in Europe, and 18,000 MVA in North America, would manufacture these transformers in India, and supply them in three lots.
The contract was won under a competitive international public bidding process, the company said in a statement.

CG signs contract with ANDE Paraguay

Paraguay is one of the world’s largest exporters of electricity. It exports to neighboring Brazil and Argentina.

Avantha Group Company CG, signed a contract with the State Utility of Paraguay - Administracion Nacional de Electricidad (ANDE) for  supply of 19 single and three phase transformers amounting to a total of 683.3 MVA, for expansion of the country’s 220 kV Electricity Network.

CG, which has a consolidated global manufacturing capacity of 95,000 MVA; 46,000 MVA in Asia, 31,000 MVA in Europe, and 18,000 MVA in North America, will manufacture these transformers in India and supply them in 3 lots. Spare parts, supervision of installation and commissioning, and on-site training, will also be provided.

This contract was won under a competitive international public bidding process. The Paraguayan grid has 1.3 million customers and approx 32,000 kms of distribution lines. It has been growing @ 4% p.a. since 2009. This contract represents the strengthening of 10% of ANDE’s current transforming capacity.

ANDE’s grid also faces difficulty due to distribution losses which are amongst the highest in the region. To assist in reducing those losses, and improving the grid’s energy efficiency, CG recently also won a contract for the manufacture, supply, and installation of 30,000 Smart Meters in that grid.

As part of its global manufacturing capacity, in the America’s, CG has a greenfield power transformer plant and a distribution and medium power transformer plant with a combined capacity of 10,000 MVA in Washington, Missouri, an 8,000 MVA Power Transformer facility in Winnipeg, Canada, and an Extra High Voltage (EHV) Switchgear & Mobile substation manufacturing facility in Sapucaia do Sul in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

This underlines the fact that CG is well positioned for serving the South American market and can provide its array of power Transmission & Distribution (T&D) products which includes Transformers, Extra High Voltage (EHV) equipment, Instrument Transformers (IT) , Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear, Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), Mobile Sub-stations, and Smart Grid devices, to Power Utilities and Industries in that region.

Commenting on the contract, Avantha Group Company CG’s CEO & Managing Director, Laurent Demortier said, “CG’s global expertise in power transmission and distribution is now making its presence felt in the South American region too. We are proud to be involved in this major project with ANDE, and become a key player in their grid expansion and modernization programme.  Our customers in the fast growing networks in that region can rest assured that we are fully equipped to meet all their demands with cutting edge quality and prompt deliveries.”
